Danny Dorling is a British social geographer known for his powerful insights into inequality, housing, health, and education. He holds the 1971 Professorship of Geography at the University of Oxford and is a Fellow of St Peter’s College. Dorling’s work blends geography with statistics, sociology, and demography to challenge conventional narratives about social justice and public policy.
Before Oxford, he held academic posts at Sheffield, Leeds, Bristol, and Newcastle, and has been a visiting professor at institutions across the UK. He’s also a patron of RoadPeace and a former president of the Society of Cartographers.
Dorling is the author of numerous influential books, including Injustice, Shattered Nation, Slowdown, and The Equality Effect. His latest, The Next Crisis, explores how public fears shape our understanding of global threats. He’s also co-creator of Worldmapper, a visual project that reimagines global data through cartography.
