Naz Shah MP is a British Labour politician and the long-serving MP for Bradford West, first elected in 2015 after defeating George Galloway in a high‑profile contest. Her life story – shaped by childhood abuse, being sent to Pakistan at 12, and being forced into marriage at 15 — has profoundly influenced her political commitments. Before entering Parliament, she worked in community health, local government, and mental‑health advocacy, and campaigned successfully for the release of her mother, who had been imprisoned for killing her abuser. In Westminster she has held several frontbench roles, including Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities, Community Cohesion, and Crime Reduction, and has been active on issues affecting marginalised communities, domestic abuse survivors, and British Muslims. She is currently the UK government’s trade envoy to Indonesia and the ASEAN. Her memoir Honoured recounts her journey from trauma to public leadership.
