Peter Oborne

Journalist, author, and broadcaster

Peter Oborne is one of Britain’s most respected and uncompromising political journalists. Over a career spanning more than three decades, he has built a reputation for exposing political deception, challenging media complicity, and defending the ethical responsibilities of journalism.

He has served as chief political commentator for The Daily Telegraph, political columnist for The Spectator, and writer and broadcaster for Channel 4 and the BBC. His resignation from The Daily Telegraph in 2015 over what he described as the paper’s suppression of stories critical of HSBC became a landmark moment in debates about press freedom and commercial influence in journalism.

Oborne is the author of several major books, including The Rise of Political Lying, The Triumph of the Political Class, Wounded Tiger, and The Assault on Truth, which examine how systematic deception has reshaped public life in Britain and beyond.

In recent years, Oborne has focused extensively on foreign policy and conflict reporting, including on‑the‑ground work in Gaza and the West Bank. His reporting highlights the human consequences of political narratives, the dangers of misrepresentation, and the moral duty of journalists to bear witness in situations where governments and institutions attempt to control or distort the truth.

In his most recent book, Complicit: Britain’s Role in the Destruction of Gaza, Oborne tells how Britain’s Conservative and Labour parties converged to back Israel’s criminal assault, in the process occupying disturbing common ground with the far right.

Known for his independence, moral clarity and willingness to challenge power — whether political, corporate or media — Oborne continues to write for outlets such as Middle East Eye, openDemocracy, and international publications including Zeteo, a movement for media accountability. He is widely regarded as a leading voice on political integrity, media ethics and the crisis of truth in public life.
