Lucy Eckersley is a wild animal biologist, science presenter, and passionate advocate for making science accessible, engaging, and unapologetically cool. Known as the “Punk Biologist,” she blends academic rigor with creative flair—bringing wildlife biology to life on stage, screen, and in classrooms across the UK.
She holds a BSc in Biology from the University of Sheffield, where she specialized in animal diversity and the evolution of avian flight, and an MSc in Wild Animal Biology from the Royal Veterinary College and ZSL, earning top marks and recognition for her research on charismatic carnivores like wildcats.
Lucy has worked in remote ecosystems including the Bornean rainforest and the Masai Mara, and she’s currently a Senior Events Officer at the Royal Society of Biology. Her science communication spans live comedy shows, museum exhibitions, podcasts, and television—appearing as an expert voice on wildlife and conservation topics. She’s performed at the Royal Institution, British Science Festival, Wellcome Collection, and New Scientist Live.
With a punk aesthetic and a love for storytelling, Lucy challenges stereotypes about scientists and inspires curiosity in audiences of all ages. Whether she’s handling animals, dissecting ecological systems, or diving into Arctic fieldwork, her mission is clear: to show that science is for everyone—and it’s anything but boring.
